NHV Hat Day 2022 and Jubilee

22 Oktober 2022

On October 22nd, it was time. Not only will the annual Hat Day toke place again, but we will also celebrated our (postponed) anniversary! In the meantime, we were two and a half years further than originally intended, but that will only make the celebration bigger! For this very special Hat Day we are organising an amazing series of workshops. The NHV has found a nice selection of renowned hat makers from home and abroad willing to share their knowledge with us.

From The Netherlands will have: Marianne Jongkind (covering a sparterie form with fabric), Irene van Vugt (making a poppy from silk), felt artist Saar Snoek (hand-felted brooch or corsage) and Joke Velema from Pierre & Pierre Millinery Masterclasses ( make your own frame as a basis for your fascinator). From Spain we have Cristina de Prada (faux feathers made from fabric and leather) and Nina Pawlowsky (subject to follow) and finally, from the United Kingdom, Denise Innes-Spencer with no fewer than two different workshops: Using crinoline as a base for hats and using knitted wire as a base for bridal headbands.

The section of exhibitors is exceptional this year as well. We are pleased to welcome the following suppliers: Plooij Hats & Materials, Marjorie Louwerens from Hoedendingen/All for Hats, Carina Marcon with different kinds of apprêt, the Heinz family with fabric swatches, Annette Peereboom from AJP Leather and international hat magazine The Hat Magazine! In addition, this year there is an extra extensive Marketplace where you can go for second-hand materials and tools.

In line with the growing interest in sustainability and the reuse of materials, extra attention will be paid to the processing and reviving of second-hand fur. Miranda Visser will show her hats made from old fur in a small exhibition called Zonde(r)lingen (The Seven Deadly Sins, featured in the previous Hatlines issue #77). And Hettie Heijnis will be present with work from her 'Bontgroepje', a project by five milliners who innovate with old fur.

The rest of the program (in Dutch) you can find it here, including to apply for a workshop. We will close the day with live music and a hat show!
